It’s time for another fun day of Summits on the Air in Central Oregon! We are currently planning on activating summits in the Ochoco National Forest East of Prineville. There are a variety of summits in the area, from easy drive ups to long hikes and lots of FA’s to be attempted. 

We will likely head out the night before and set up a dry camp somewhere central to the area for those who are interested in camping for the weekend. Alternatively, there are lodgings in Bend, Redmond, Madras and Prineville. For the more adventurous, the Southern section of the Forest is also really nice for camping. Antelope Flat Reservoir has a very nice campground with vault toilets but no water.  We have activated most of the summits in the Maury Mountains though fire has decimated several that we have not been back to see what remains.

As with years past, we will operate as a directed net. I, W7MTB, will act as net control and will ask for checkins when we start. As an operator, your responsibility will be to check in with your call and summit identifier and make note of other calls/identifiers as they check in. Once check ins are complete I will work down the list of checked in operators, handing off the net to a single operator at a time. When it is your turn, work down your own list of operators you could hear during check in. This will reduce the number of QSO’s each operator has to make as we work down the list such that the operators lowest on the list will have the fewest number of calls left to make. 

I’ve created a google sheet for tracking who plans on what summit to help reduce the amount of writing necessary as things can move quickly; last year we had ~ 20 operators and were done with the Net in less than 30 minutes!
