Bald Mountain is located in the Fremont-Winema National Forest in Central Oregon. Located approximately 30 miles south of LaPine, OR. From Lapine head South on US97 to Highway 31. After 13 miles turn south on USFS 2516, a well maintained Forest Service road. Head South for another 13 miles to NFD277.

There is an active fire lookout in the summer and the road is gated approximately .8 miles below the summit when occupied. The road was recently graded prior to our visit and the walk from the Bronco up to the Summit was uneventful, other than the copious number of mosquitos.

There are several RF installations on the summit and it is a bit noisy, up to s5 on 40M, but we were able to work some SSB contacts. 2M FM was a bit harder but doable.

Combine Bald Mountain with Walker Mountain and Skookum Butte for an 18 point day.
